Our Most Cherished Right
As we approach Election Day this Tuesday I urge you all to vote and encourage all your friends and family to vote. I believe it’s our most cherished right and greatest responsibility. The greater the turn-out, the better we’ll feel about the results and the quicker we’ll rally around our newly elected public servants. I feel good about my campaign, my reasons for running, and my commitment to running in a way that you, my supporters, can be proud of. I’ve actively campaigned in every one of the nine counties in the Second District. Another Unexcused Absence
Last week, I campaigned in multiple towns, cities, and counties across the Second District. Just in the last three days, I have traveled to Asheboro, Fayetteville, Erwin, Cameron, Southern Pines, and Overhills High School. The worst example to date of Rep. Ellmers’ absentee tenure as a Congresswoman was in her home county, Harnett County, last week at the combined County Commissioner and School Board meeting. Harnett County schools are overcrowded now due to the growth at Fort Bragg and the resulting increase in families with school age children, and it’s quickly getting worse. The Most Ineffective Congress. Ever.
Well, it happened. As most predicted, our Congress recessed this week without fixing the fiscal cliff they’re driving us towards and did not pass a Farm Bill. The odds of these being remedied in the next session, the post election Lame Duck session, is very slim. At that point, there will be a significant number of new members-elect and they’ll say “the people have spoken,” leaving the new Congress to chart the future course. Not only have they left our budget and financial future hanging, they’ve turned their backs on the people they were sent to represent.
